Study Leave Guidelines
Please read these notes before filling in an application form.
RETROSPECTIVE APPLICATIONS MAY NOT BE CONSIDERED
Application Forms
- Application forms are available from: Medical Staffing and the Postgraduate
Centre (see our downloads page)
- Study leave applications should be:
- Received by the Study Leave Officer, completed and signed, at least one month before the proposed leave starts.
- Accompanied by course details.
- Contain an adequate statement of the educational suitability of the proposed
course/exam by the applicant's Consultant and Specialty Tutor; particular attention should
be paid to the applicant's readiness to sit the exam.
- Separate application forms should be completed for each period of study leave, i.e. exams, private study and courses should be on separate forms.
Expenses
- If expenses for travel and/or subsistence are not completed on the study leave application form, retrospective claims may not be considered.
- Claims for expenses must be submitted on a yellow claim form one month after the study leave has been taken.
- All receipts, for subsistence, travel and registration fee, must be submitted with the expenses claim form before payment can be made.
- Expenses for study leave overseas are at the discretion of the Clinical Tutor.
Please Note
- If financial assistance has been, or may be, made from any other source, please give details on the application form.
- Study leave beginning in your present hospital and finishing in a different hospital, must be approved by both hospitals/trusts before study leave can be taken.
