The Gainsborough is a well-established GP Surgery situated on the outskirts of Bracknell. The Practice consists of six partners, one practice manager, three nurses, one HCA and 13 support staff who look after some 9,800 patients.

Our vision: “To be a medical practice of choice, delivering healthcare and learning to the highest quality, through clinical governance, patient safety initiatives, patient participation and choice.”

Our core values that are shared among the Partners and staff are: -

  • Professionalism
  • Accountability
  • Openness, Fairness & Respect
  • Participation and involvement

The Practice has always prided itself on providing high quality medicine in a traditional, family practice setting and that has been the unwritten rule for many years. We believe our peers respect us and we have built positive relationships with our consultant colleagues at the local hospitals in the Berkshire locality and beyond. One of our partners is a qualified trainer and so both learning and education are going to be an important part of what we do.

We are fortunate in the ability and commitment of our staff. Our staff turnover is low and the staff are always willing to explore different ways of working. An example of this is the way we multi-skill and how many staff have the ability to taken on a variety of demanding roles. All staff have regular reviews and annual appraisals where the goals of the individual, teams and the Practice are discussed and agreement reached on the way forward. Regular reviews act as a way of reinforcing effective performance, highlight areas for improvement and recognise developing strengths.

We share the medical centre with our neighbours, the Waterfield Medical Practice, and have an excellent facility, which is has undergone expansion to meet the current and future needs of our patient population. We do need to maximise our use of the facilities and thereby maximise our income.

We would describe ourselves as a computer literate practice, where our day-to-day management and the reviews of our patients are all undertaken using computers. We ensure and guard our patient confidentiality and continue to explore new ways of undertaking our business. Our aim is to improve the patient experience by reducing the processing times and increasing data accuracy, in line with the Connecting for Health Guidelines. We continue to explore new ideas, to improve our handling of patient information. We envisage using an accredited hosted server with our data securely saved off site. Improvements mean that our patients will be able to book appointments on-line and interact with our future website.
