The Herschel Medical Centre is a purpose built training practice at the heart of Slough next to Upton Hospital. We are an enthusiastic training team involved in the teaching of registrars and foundation doctors, nurse practitioners and both student doctors and nurses. We usually have two registrars at any one time training with either Dr Roderic Clark or Dr Raj Bhargava.
The registrars have the benefit of their own room adjacent to their trainers. The practice aims to provide an informal friendly training experience to the registrar, who also has the benefit of the whole team being involved and used to training. Additional advantages include being close to Upton Hospital with the facilities that it provides, and being able to walk into the town centre for shopping/lunch. We are also relatively close to Wexham Park Hospital postgraduate centre, which saves travel time on the Tuesday day release and offers convenient and timely access to other teaching venues (for example the Wednesday lunch time lecture programme). In addition out of hours care in Slough is based at the surgery, which our registrars find very convenient.
The practice has 11,000 patients and is paperless, or nearly so. It is a busy practice and the registrar will experience a wide range of medical presentations from our registered patients. However very few ‘extras’ are added to surgeries, as ‘on the day appointments’ are well catered for by the Nurse Practitioners. We close Wednesday afternoons so registrars also have an opportunity to further their own study or attend other training experiences at that time.
We welcome informal enquiries either by telephone or e-mail.
