John Lister Postgraduate Centre

Introduction and Background to VTS

The Windsor District includes the towns of Windsor, Ascot, Maidenhead, Slough and Bracknell, and a small part of south Buckinghamshire, with an overall population of 430,000.

The General Practice Training Scheme was started in 1971, and has developed a reputation for giving quality training by enthusiastic and experienced trainers, in a supportive and friendly environment.

Future General Practitioners should be able to generate their own continuing medical education throughout their professional lives: to this end the teaching programme emphasises individual and group work, stimulated by practical situations and reinforced by experience, audit and study. We believe that registrars should also enjoy effective communication with their patients and families, have a critical approach to all aspects of their work and have the facility of flexibility and resilience.

Hospital posts include paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, medicine, psychiatry, ENT, A&E, Sexual Health and General Practice. GP ST doctors will be prepared for, and sit, the nMRCGP exams.
