John Lister Postgraduate Centre

Vision Statement

The Windsor Vocational Training Scheme will be acknowledged for excellence, drawing the best out of all doctors in GP Specialty training, regardless of their individual abilities. The resulting General Practitioners will be able to understand the diversity of human relationships and ill health presenting in primary care, and be able to offer a range of help to their patients. They will be able to continue self-motivated learning throughout their careers. They will have developed self-knowledge and be equipped with skills and flexibility to be responsive to changes in the individual and society's needs of primary care workers. They will be happy to work in teams with other health professionals.

Trainers, training practices and nominated hospital posts will work co-operatively together to provide the registrars with a supportive environment. Education will be valued and based on adult concepts, where learning is built on accruing relevant knowledge and practical skills, with reflection to digest the experience.

Therefore the teaching programme will emphasise individual and group work, stimulated by practical situations and reinforced by experience, audit and study. We believe that registrars should also enjoy effective communication with their patients and families, have a critical approach to all aspects of their work and have the facility of flexibility and resilience.

Trainers and Programme Directors will be mutually supportive and enjoy the stimulation of fresh ideas, in an atmosphere of respect for traditional methods of assessing competence and excellence.
